Mnemosyne in Greek mythology was a Titaness, a personification of memory and the mother of the Olympian Muses. She also numbered among the Mousai Titanides, the Muses of the Titans. Mnemosyne was the muse of memory and, by Zeus , was mother of the Nine Muses of Olympus. She was also grandmother of the Apollonic Muses through Calliope.

In Greek mythology, Menomsyne was the personification of memory as well as one of the five rivers of Hades, counterpart to the river Lethe.
